Thomas and I have dusted off our running shoes in preparation for the Taupo Half Marathon, which is just 4 weeks away.

We have found a handy website, www.mapmyrun.com, which lets you map a route and view the distances and elevation profiles. It doesn't require registration - just save your map anonymously and bookmark the result for future reference.

Chris Heilmann has created a wiki named The Business case for Web Standards.

The benefits for small business owners are listed, and include:

  • Cost savings in maintenance and further development of your website.
  • Higher value associated with the website, which can be realised if you sell your business.

OK Computer has designed websites using web standards since Jan 2005.

Search Engine Optimisation

Submitted by Mike Birch on 22 May 2007 - 5:04pm.

I have updated a news item from last year entitled Poorly Built Websites Like Leaky Buildings, which compared this site and our competitors' websites.

These competitors are all companies offering web design and development in Taupo. It is disappointing to report that none of these sites has changed much — most haven't added any content to the front pages of their sites. All but one are using outdated technology to develop websites. Many of these businesses also offer "Search Engine Optimisation" (SEO), but on their own sites they have failed to use the basic principles of SEO, which can be summarised: “add quality content regularly and make sure your site is well-built”.
