It was a bad weekend for Xtra, with some customers unable to check their e-mail. The Herald reported that Telecom bursts its own bubble. This is not the first time that we have reported dissatisfaction with Xtra.

Some suggestions for those that want to change:

  • Home users: Sign up with an alternative service. Gmail is an excellent free service. Put an auto-reply on your xtra address, advising of your new e-mail address.
  • Business users: We recommend using your own domain name for business — it's more professional and is portable.
  • Use Multiple e-mail addresses: It's a good idea to use Hotmail or Gmail addresses for web forms and subscriptions. Keep your business address private and restricted to business to reduce SPAM.
